PEOPLE LIKE ME

Kunstlinie, Almere, The Netherlands

Arjan Spannenburg presented his solo exhibition, "PEOPLE LIKE ME," at Kunstlinie Almere from October 11 to December 13, 2024. This powerful photographic project offered an intimate look at the LGBTQIA+ community, with a specific focus on themes of homosexuality, identity, and vulnerability. The exhibition’s title reflected a dual meaning: exploring "people like me" while addressing the universal human desire to be accepted or "liked". Notable works included the interactive installation "RESTRAINT," which became a symbol of societal struggle after it was vandalized and subsequently restored through community participation. Spannenburg’s signature raw, monochrome style invites viewers to bridge the gap between perceived strength and inherent fragility.

PARATISSIMA

PARATISSIMA, Turin, Italy

Visualizing Justice: Arjan Spannenburg at Paratissima 2023. During Turin Art Week, Dutch photographer Arjan Spannenburg joined the Alina Art Foundation to present "Il Potere" (The Power). This wasn't just an exhibition; it was a call to action through "Artivism." From the interactive scarred canvas of SANCTIONED to the monochrome "power-shift" of COMPELLED, Spannenburg’s work at the Cavallerizza Reale challenged international audiences to confront the human condition and social justice head-on.
